    MacBook Pro RAM information:
    The MacBook Pro 15.4" has two memory sockets. The original Core Duo machines can accept up to 2GB in RAM in two 1GB chips.

    The first Core 2 Duo machines introduced in October 2006 can support up to 3GB of RAM by using 1 x 2GB module and 1 x 1GB module.

    The later Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros (June 2007 and Feb 2008) can use 4GB of RAM. All machines use PC2-5300 SODIMMs.

    MacBook (13.3") RAM information:
    The MacBook takes DDR2-PC5300 SODIMM memory modules. Like all the Intel based Macs with integrated graphics, RAM modules need to be installed in matched pairs - this gives the memory bandwidth necessary to a graphics system that uses normal system memory.

    MacBooks made up until November 2007 can take a maximum of 2GB in 2 x 1GB modules.

    MacBooks made after then (Santa Rosa MacBooks and later) can take a maximum of 4GB in 2 x 2GB modules.

    To tell the difference the best way is to use System Profile. The Santa Rosa and later Macbooks have an 800MHz bus speed rather than 667MHz and use the Intel GMA X3100 graphics chipset not the Intel GMA 950
